Summer session aims to empower students to realize that they are capable of making a positive difference in their community. Guided by a different theme each year - this year’s was Mahatma Gandhi’s words, “Be the change you wish to see in the world” - students spend their summer building up their academic ability and giving back to the community from which they come. Students take rigorous math and English courses in the mornings and work on community service projects in the afternoons.

This summer, students rotated through three community service projects. One group worked to alleviate hunger by volunteering at a Heifer farm outside the city and at a food pantry within the city. Another group spent time reading to and organizing games for younger children at various day camps. Still another group learned from veterans about service and
the readjustment process.
